West Canfield Historic District Membership
West Canfield Historic District is a 501(c)(3) organization. Its purpose is to:
- Foster and promote such plans and activities as will tend to maintain and secure the welfare and best
interests of the residents and property owners within the legal boundaries of the West Canfield Historic
District, namely, the block of West Canfield from the middle of Second Blvd. to the middle of Third Avenue,
and from the middle of the alley between West Canfield and Prentis Street, and the middle of the alley
between West Canfield and Willis Avenue, in the City of Detroit.
- Cooperate with city agencies for the historical preservation of the dwellings, as well as, the beautification
and improvement of the community.
- Uphold and enforce the laws, ordinances, and restrictions.
- Assist and promote improvements for the general welfare of the residents and property owners in the surrounding neighborhood, as well as, this block, in the following categories, but not limited to: public utilities, schools, streets, parks, educational facilities, maintenance, historic preservation, and housing.
Membership
Voting Member Eligibility - $50.00; renewed annually
To qualify for consideration as a voting member, member must be:
An owner or a permanent (live in) resident of one of the dwellings within the legal boundaries of the West Canfield Historic District for at least three months. Permanent residency for those who do not own a dwelling within the legal boundaries will be established by evidence of the address on a driver's license or federal tax return.
Each member shall have one vote.
Only voting members whose dues are paid in full will be entitled to vote or hold office.
In order to hold office, a voting member must also be an owner of a dwelling within the legal boundaries of the West Canfield Historic District.
Non-Voting Member Eligibility
A. Associate Membership - $25.00; renewed annually
Applicant has an interest in supporting the purpose of the organization.
